On December 2nd over 70 original waxes by Harry Jackson were included in a gift to the City of Camaiore of over 150 objects from Harry Jackson’s home and studio in Camaiore. These works include the original wax sculptures for such iconic Jackson masterpieces as the Pony Express, Two Champs and Sacagawea. There are also several original Harry Jackson sculptures which were never cast and released to the public. These original masterpieces can only be seen in Camaiore when this collection opens to the public sometime in the next couple of years.
The City of Camaiore is providing a space for the waxes and other objects to be exhibited in the same piazza where Harry Jackson’s 10 foot high sculpture of Sacagawea is located. This casting of his Sacagawea sculpture has been on exhibit in the central church square of Capezzano Pianore, a suburb of Camiore, since 1985. The combination of the collection of waxes plus the Sacagawea monument will make this a truly unique collection in the world of Harry Jackson’s work.
Giampiero Pardini the founder of Pardini Armi is the underwriter of this permanent exhibit. He will be working closely with the City of Camaiore to realize this permanent exhibit that celebrates Harry Jackson who has become a celebrated part of Camaiore’s history.
Harry Jackson first visited this area in Italy in the late 50’s. He bought his property in 1961 where he built a house, studio and full fledged bronze casting foundry. All his children grew up there and Jackson could be found six months out of every year at his house in Camaiore until he passed away in 2011.
The family is very excited to have this continuing link to Italy and Camaiore that celebrates Harry Jackson, his art and his life in Italy.
