TV News clip
The exhibit of Harry Jackson art work at the Wyoming State Capitol Building opens on Monday February 3rd. Here is a news story from KGWN CBS Chanel 5 in Cheyenne WY about the show. http://www.kgwn.tv/story/24562948/cody-artist-harry-jackson-is-honored-at-state-capitol. He is “one of the greatest artists in Wyoming history” they say in the piece. They keep referring to his coming from Chicago, but he was in Cody, WY from the time he was 14, in 1938, till he passed away at 87 in 2011.
I’m hope the statement “One of the greatest artists in Wyoming history” is controversial in the sense that it causes people to think and offer up who they feel are the great artists in Wyoming history. Also just to stir the pot more it bears remembering that Harry Jackson occupies a significant place in American art history, that although not fully recognized or studied, his archives and body of work will make that clear. Art is an important part of humanity’s story and any good discussion about art is great.
