Artist’s thoughts on the Medicine Man Painted

This sculpture is of an archetypal Medicine Man.  He is not of any specific tribe or nationality according to Jackson.  The sculpture depicts a medicine dance between the Shaman and his spirits.  The mysterious mask with its painting that recalls the eastern Yin & Yang symbol is a central part to the dance and the discourse with the spirits.  Jackson has no specific words to surround the colors or symbols he used in painting this sculpture.  They are for us to discover on our own.

1993   “American Photo Safari” on ESPN Cable Television network. Harry Jackson was the celebrity host and they featured the Medicine Man Painted sculpture in his studio.
